EMDR helps the client to reprocess old traumatic or stressful memories to alleviate the client’s present circumstances. EMDR effectively reorganizes your negative emotions, thoughts, and beliefs into more positive ones to alleviate the symptoms caused by PTSD and other stresses.
EMDR therapy uses rapid eye movements or tapping to provide the client relief from disturbing experiences and helps to close the door on past traumatic beliefs and triggers.
EMDR does not rehash old pains and the details of the traumatic event but targets the beliefs from past targeted memories that are affecting the client’s life in the present. The best thing about EMDR therapy is the client has no homework and all of the work is done during therapy sessions. The client will learn tools to integrate into their life for better self-care.
